Welcome to the new VinylCentric Gallery And Archive website

We are located in the heart of downtown Calgary

VinylCentric Gallery and Archive is the new public brand of the Canadian Museum of Recorded Music and Culture (CMRMC).

We celebrate the artform of recorded music and sound, especially the vinyl record with it’s striking visual, sonic and long-lasting historical appeal.

VinylCentric Gallery draws on one of the most extensive archives in Canada of original musical artifacts, including vast numbers of records of all sorts, posters, photos, periodicals and promotional items from years 1948-1990.

Our mission is to collect and preserve original musical artifacts, conduct research, and use the latest technologies to tell stories about the deep impact recorded music has on our lives, loves, dreams and culture.

In the summer of 2025 VinylCentric Gallery and Archive moved into a fabulous Gallery space in Bankers Hall in downtown Calgary Alberta Canada.

We have been very busy preparing for our first exhibit, PhonoSphere which is now open to the public.

Our first exhibit of many to come in the months ahead

PhonoSphere is a brief history of the phonograph or record player in Canadian homes from the time of the first long-playing vinyl records in1948 through to 1978 when the large stereo console went extinct.

All of the original phonographs in our first exhibit were Made in Canada and we devote great attention to both Clairtone and Electrohome designs.

If you’re in the Calgary area, please visit in person. We’ll publish an on-line version of this colorful exhibit in the coming weeks.
